Cactus, aka Mila, and her new Forever Faithful Companion – Lucio. They are so happy together!

Mila and her sister Besita were born on a construction site on the far northern edge of town. Besita showed up at the door of a woman in the middle of the night, pleading to be let in. Sadly, Virginia has a full pack so she reached out to me to take in this little cutie. About one week later I received a call from Virginia’s friend. Besita’s sister had shown up on her doorstep in the middle of the night, “are you my mother?” Caitlin reached out to me to see if I could reunite the sister’s, which was a great idea. I was also able to trade Mila for Puká, a very small chihuahua mix. I was very concerned for her safety as all the other dogs are big and very rough. Like so many puppies, she had a bit of a ruff start with explosive diarrhea and a belly-full of parasites that the two passed back and forth, despite my best efforts to clean and sterilize their enclosure. It seemed to take forever to eliminate but a few rounds of Flagyl have rid them of their parasites and they were able to get their first round of puppy shots on May 11th. Today they are being sterilized and they will have their last puppy shot, rabies, on June 10th. On June 11th they will be ready for their forever home!

Mila and Besita, while sisters, have very different personalities. Besita is a sassy, rowdy little girl and loves to mix it up with the big dogs, easily able to hold her own. Mila, on the other hand ,is much more gentle and timid. She is definitely happier snuggled in my lap than tussling with the other pups. While I generally love to keep siblings together I think these two are better apart. They have a tendency to gang up on other dogs and together they exhibit behavior which I won’t tolerate. But separately they will be sweet, beautiful, and loving companions!
